MetaPost: Re: mem file not found...François PÉTIARD

1/ MetaPost 1.206 doesn't work with MiKTeX :-(

2/ In MetaPost 1.005, outputtemplate doesn't exist; in the manual, there is:

«MetaPost versions~1.000 to~1.102 used a different template mechanism, see
section B.2 for more information.»

And in section B.2, there is:

"The output file naming template mechanism introduced in MetaPost version 1.000 originally  used a primitive called filenametemplate, as opposed to the internal string variable  outputtemplate described in section 3.1. This primitive took a string argument with the  same syntax as outputtemplate, except that it didn’t know about the %{...} escape sequence  for evaluating internal variables, e.g.,:  filenametemplate "%j-%c.mps";
The filenametemplate primitive has been deprecated since the introduction of outputtemplate (version 1.200), but is still supported. If you happen to need writing future-proof source files, that at the same time are backwards compatible to MetaPost versions between 1.000 and 1.200, this output filename template declaration might help:

if scantokens(mpversion) < 1.200:
filenametemplate
else:
outputtemplate :=
fi
"%j-%c.mps";

So, replace:

outputtemplate := %j-%3c.mps;

by

filenametemplate "%j-%3c.mps";

or by

if scantokens(mpversion) < 1.200:
filenametemplate
else:
outputtemplate :=
fi
"%j-%3c.mps"; François

MetaPost: mem file not found...Carlos Ruiz

Hello,

I'm definitely new to MetaPost. I run the version 1.005 that I got with MikTex ver 2.7. I run it throug Crimson Editor. When I include directives such as the one below (found in the MetaPost documentation for version 1.206):

outputtemplate := %j-%3c.mps;

I get the following output message:

>> outputtemplate
>> "%j-%3c.mps"
! Equation cannot be performed (numeric=string).
<to be read again>
                   ;
l.1 outputtemplate := "%j-%3c.mps";

I'm sorry, but I don't know how to make such things equal.
(See the two expressions just above the error message.)

I just downloaded the version 1.206 from this site (metapost-1.206-win32-mingw) but now I get the following message:

---------- Capture Output ----------
> "C:\MetaPost\mpost.exe" Prueba2.mp
warning: kpathsea: configuration file texmf.cnf not found in these directories: c:/MetaPost;c:/;c:/;c:/MetaPost/share/texmf-local/web2c;c://share/texmf-local/web2c;c://share/texmf-local/web2c;c:/MetaPost/texmf-local/web2c;c://texmf-local/web2c;c://texmf-local/web2c;c:/MetaPost/share/texmf/web2c;c://share/texmf/web2c;c://share/texmf/web2c;c:/MetaPost/texmf/web2c;c://texmf/web2c;c://texmf/web2c.

Sorry, I can't find the 'mpost' mem file; will try 'plain'.
I can't find the 'plain' mem file!

Is this the right place to find help for this problem???

Thank you very much

Carlos.

Note, I'm including the file I'm trying to run

I have written a short reply in that feature request, but if you want to discuss this further I suggest you subscribe and send email to the metapost mailing list at tug.org. I visit the fora and trackers here very irregularly.

MetaPost: Re: how to include a mp file in another mp file?Matej Tyc

Thank you for your reply, although I have found that out by myself earlier. (I also think that it is not very explicitly described in the manual, maybe it can be emphasized there, AFAIK it is not even in the 'reference' section of the manual).

However, what puzzled me is that if the include file contains the "verbatimtex" section, that section does not behave like it was included and I have to write it again and again in my files. Any chance that this limitation is going to be removed? I have put an item to the "feature requests" tracker with some small additional info

Matej

MetaPost: how to include a mp file in another mp file?Matej Tyc

Hello, I am searching for something like the tex \input command.

I would like to have one metapost "header" that would contain settings and directives for all the project figures. I know that I can have all figures in one file, but it is not nice when using version control and multiple files IMHO look better.

I know that there is a input command for using packages, but I can't get to use it to include my files in the same directory.
I use metapost v. 1.005 (Web2C 7.5.7), TexLive distribution

Thank you for your help,
Matej
